03/08/2010 We are now in Cosham! Alworths based in Cosham High street have just joined the PBCRP. Alworths is the first store in Cosham to join the partnership. Speaking to the crime manager, Ray the General Manager said: "We are very committed to working with the police and local community to combat crime against us and in the area. We are very pleased to have that extra bit of security for little extra cost and we are very much looking forward to finding out who the offenders are in Cosham!! 26/07/10 NEW CRIME MANAGER. Police Constable Mark Walsh has been appointed as the new crime manager and started working today. PC Walsh said "At a time where police partnership roles are being reduced, I am absolutely delighted to be starting as the crime manager for the PBCRP. Hampshire Constabulary recognises the key role the partnership plays to help Portsmouth’s businesses combat crime against them so they were keen to ensure this role was supported. I look forward to working with the professional security guards, the managers of Portsmouth businesses and the professional hard-working licensees and door safety officers to continue our goals of making Portsmouth Businesses safer places to work, shop and of course, enjoy".

PC Walsh has joined us from the Portsmouth City Centre Unit so knows the city centre area well. He is also a national accredited cheque and payment card fraud expert and will be looking to support our members with help, training and advice in this area.


July 2010: The new digital radios for the PBCRP will be distributed in the very near future. This will be a fantatic benefit for members as they use the encrypted radios to communicate. The radios also have added safety benefits such as screens displaying names and the ability to make private calls.

Home Office Funding.

The Portsmouth Business Crime Reduction Partnership has been succesfull in obtaining £50,000.00 worth of funding from the Home Office. The funding will purchase a new digital radio system for the Partnership and target independent businessess.

Portsmouth Day Time Economy collecting intelligence.
The PBCRP is working with the day time economy to collect intelligence. The intelligence will then be disseminated to members and partners.

Drink Banning Orders.
The Banbury Pubwatch in Oxford is the first organisation to successfully apply for a Drink Banning Order in England. The Pubwatch recorded over 40 incidents of a male causing problems in their Night Time Economy and have now taken out a Drink Banning Order on him.

Preventing handbag thefts.
The PBCRP and Police have purchased a number of Lanyards to distribute to vulnerable shoppers in the City Centre. The lanyard connects the shoppers purse to a handbag and prevents them being stolen. The Police will be identifying vulnerable shoppers and distributing them.

Local News.
The PBCRP has recently been in the local news promoting the Christmas Cards that were recently sent to all the people who are banned via the exclusion process- Happy Christmas!

Refusal Card.
The new refusal card has been introduced in the Guildhall for the night time economy. The card will assist with identifying the small minority of people who ruin agood night out in Portsmouth. If the card proves succesfull it will be used across the City.

New Look fleeced
A shop assistant from New Look fleeced her branch of more than £1,00.00 in clothes by working in tandem with a shoplifter. The shop worker removed security tags from items, bagged them up and then called the accomplice on a moblie to call into the shop and collect them. Both are appearing at court.

Move to outlaw "party" drugs
Two "party" drugs BZP, a herbal ecstasy, and GBL, an industrial solvent, will be outlawed by the Home Office after their links to the death of young people.

Classy Shoplifter
The Daily Telegrapg is reporting that the recession is hitting all areas of society, as a result the middle classes are turning to crime, shopliftinfting especially.

Security Review
The Hampshire Constabulary have linked a recent burglary in Portsmouth with a series of historical burglaries. The offenders have targetted retail premises in the early hours of the morning often causing significant damage on entering. Shopping centres and small stores were previously tragetted, often but not exclusively high value items such as jewellery has been taken. Retailers should be made aware of this and consider a review of their security.

18 Months For Serious Assault
Richard Longmore from Beaulieu Road, Portsmouth has received 18 months in prison after a serious assault in the Guildhall back in February 2008. The assault was on a female, Ruth Brooke, who ended up with 24 sticthes.

Credit Crunch Crime Wave.
Home Secretary Jacqui Smith will be hosting a summit to address fears of a "credit crunch crime wave", those attending the meeting will include Police, retailers and charities for the elderly.

Door Staff working well.
Yet again this weekend more people banned via the PBCRP exclusion notice and court exclusion orders were identified and prevented from entering licensed premises in the City Centre and Gunwharf Quays. One of the latest indentified had been previously banned via the Courts.

Day time briefing proves fruitful.
Only an hour after the recent PBCRP daytime economy briefing were a local trouble maker was discussed a member who attended the meeting noticed the individual and brought him to the attention of the Police via radio network. As a result the individual was detained and later charged with an offence.

Door Steward assaults down.
On Monday 12 January the Evening News reported that assaults on Door Stewards are down. This is a result of venues and partner agencies working together. In the article Chairwoman of the City Pubwatch, Janet Hillier, states "The PBCRP allows us to exclude poeple sooner rather than later and when they are banned from one they are banned from all."
